The Oregon House of Representatives passed House Concurrent Resolution 204 on Tuesday, recognizing the University of Oregon football program for their 2012 Rose Bowl win.
In presenting the bill to the House, Rep. Nancy Nathanson, D-Eugene, called attention to the success of the football program as well as the community service and academic achievements of the players.
“Every single member of the team participated in the O Heroes program, visiting and working with kids in schools, hospitals, and workshops, and writing to active duty military service personnel,” Rep. Nathanson said, “No PAC-12 school had more student athletes receiving academic accolades than the University of Oregon.”
The team played before national television audiences in nine games in 2011. The College Game Day show broadcast live from Eugene for the fifth time in five years, bringing increased national attention to the school and to the state. “The football program has brought pride to Oregon, and the players have brought honor to the program and joy to fans all over the country,” Rep. Nathanson said.
The resolution now moves to the Senate for consideration.
